Pultrusion Process | Pultruded Fiberglass Grating

Pultrusion, as the name implies, the machine grips the raw materials and "pulls" them through a series of steps until the finished part reaches the cut-off saw. The term "pultrusion" is actually a combination of the two words "pull" and "extrusion".

The pultrusion process, utilized in the manufacturing of pultruded fiberglass grating is a continuous and automated process. During the process, continuous fiberglass rovings and strand mat are pulled through the guides, a resin bath and preformers, then wrapped with a synthetic veil before being pulled through a heated die. The final work is to assemble the bearing bars, groove and the rod.

  • Continuous fiberglass strand mat added for multidirectional reinforcement.
  • Glass fiber reinforcements are "wet-out" with thermoset resin.
  • Resin provides shape and protects the fibers from corrosion.
  • Surface veil added for enhancing surface appearance.
